About Nancy Boyle

Nancy Boyle is a traditionally trained artist working in oil painting.

She grew up in Boston with the influence of family artists who studied and taught art in Boston.

Her landscape sketches and paintings are inspired by New England as well as her studies of art history, time spent living in coastal Alaska, and travels to Europe and Israel.

She lives in Wayland, Massachusetts.

I grew up in a large family in Hyde Park, a part of Boston.  Hyde Park felt like a small town, with many shops and businesses, and public transportation into Boston which I used from my teen years to explore the city. Experiencing Boston, from the gritty to the elegant, was a strong influence on my art and life.

After completing a BFA at Mass College of Art, I raised a family and had a career in graphic design and illustration. During those years I took workshops and classes in art. In recent years I have returned to painting and drawing full time.

My art expression has taken inspiration from my childhood loves (nature and reading and Boston); exploring New England; distant travels (Alaska log cabin life and fishing boats), Israeli Kibbutz, Egypt, Greece; the love of motherhood, family and friends; Irish heritage from my paternal grandparents; artist community including teachers and mentors; and visitors to my studio and collectors of my work.

I believe the most successful art is an expression of the human spirit and our common humanity. It can inspire and lift us emotionally and intellectually. It may give us insight into ourselves and our world.

I hope you enjoy my art as much as I enjoy making it and sharing it with you.
